Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik stated in a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that terrorism, as a serious challenge facing BiH, tragically showed its face on April 27th in the deadly attack by a "radical Islamist" on Republika Srpska police in Zvornik, reports the Patria News Agency.
- At least one returnee from combat in Syria is among those arrested in connection with the attack, the RS President notes.
Dodik sent the accompanying letter with the regular Report that the RS Government submitted to the United Nations Security Council, which places a special emphasis on strong support for the new EU initiative for BiH, as well as on the necessity of a decentralized federal structure of BiH.
- The Report examines the necessity of a decentralized Dayton structure of BiH for preserving stability and functional governance of BiH. It also explains the need for BiH, as Europe's largest exporter of fighters to the 'Islamic State' per capita, to be particularly vigilant and prevent terrorism at home, the RS President's letter to the UN Secretary-General states.
Dodik also lists a series of RS activities in fulfilling obligations in accordance with the adopted statement at the state level on the European path.
As he explains, these include RS's continuous work on economic reforms, reviewing expensive and inefficient institutions at the BiH level, judicial reform necessary for achieving European standards, and negotiations on the coordination mechanism of authorities in BiH.
The Report also discusses why the Office of the High Representative must be closed, and why UN member states should oppose the counterproductive resolution on crimes in Srebrenica, ATV reported.
