Drunk driver hits woman in Ilijaš and flees the scene

(Patria) - Yesterday at 5:30 PM in the settlement of Ljubinići, municipality of Ilijaš, a traffic accident occurred in which pedestrian H.K. from Breza sustained serious injuries. The driver "mowed down" the pedestrian and then fled the scene without providing assistance.

As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, the driver fled the scene of the accident after the collision.

"During this incident, pedestrian H.K., born in 1959 in Breza, where she resides, was hit and knocked to the ground by a passenger motor vehicle, a 'VW Polo', without license plates, driven by A.M., born in 1966 in Zvornik, residing in Ilijaš, who was under the influence of alcohol and did not possess a driver's license," the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton stated this morning.

They further stated that after the accident, the driver left the scene of the incident with the vehicle without providing assistance to the injured person.

"In this traffic accident, pedestrian H.K. sustained severe bodily injuries, and medical assistance was provided to her at the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo, after which she was sent for home treatment. The duty prosecutor of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton was informed about the above, and the investigation was carried out by police officers of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton. On 02/17/2021 at 01:30 AM, A.M. was deprived of liberty, due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he committed criminal offenses under Article 336, paragraph 3 (Serious offenses against public traffic safety), Article 337 (Failure to provide assistance to a person injured in a traffic accident), in conjunction with Article 332, paragraph 1 (Endangering public traffic) of the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and handed over to the premises of the Unit for Security of Objects and Detention of Persons Deprived of Liberty of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton," they concluded in the report of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, adding that work is continuing on documenting the criminal offenses.
