Pezeshkian: I will be the president of all Iranians

(Patria) - Newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was inaugurated yesterday at the parliament building in Tehran.

Pezeshkian first took the oath before the deputies, and then in his speech stated that he will be the president of all Iranians.

He promised to work on improving the living standards of citizens, stating that Iran is seeking peace.

- The world should seize this opportunity to resolve regional and global issues through the cooperation of a powerful, dignified Iran that seeks peace.

The countries of the region should not allow a few radical voices to misrepresent nearly two billion free-thinking Muslims. Islam is a religion of peace - he emphasized.

He expressed a strong desire for a world in which the Palestinian people, as he said, will be freed from occupation and oppression.

- I want a world where the dreams of a Palestinian child are not buried under the rubble of their homes - Pezeshkian added.

Among others, the ceremony in the Iranian capital was attended by the Prime Minister of Iraq Al-Sudani, his counterpart from Azerbaijan Ali Asadov, the President of Kurdistan Barzani, as well as the head of state of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.

Spokesperson for the Yemeni Houthis Mohammad Abdulsalam, as well as one of the leaders of Hamas Ismail Haniyeh, also attended the event.

Pezeshkian officially became the ninth president of Iran on Sunday, after his four-year term was approved by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at a ceremony.
