Petković: European Union said RS has the right to a police reserve force

BANJA LUKA (Patria) - Continuing the fourth regular session of the National Assembly of the entity Republika Srpska, deputies are discussing the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Police and Internal Affairs.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of RS, Dragan Lukač, said yesterday that the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Police and Internal Affairs establishes the formal legal conditions for establishing a police reserve force.

Lukač emphasized that it is stipulated that the reserve police force will have the same powers as the regular police in accordance with the Law on Police and Internal Affairs, in order to achieve the maximum level of security for persons and property, especially during the period when an increase in the intensity of the migrant crisis is expected.

“The age limit for hiring police officers has also been adjusted with the aim of rejuvenating the staff in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and formal legal conditions have been created for establishing a system for protecting the information and communication structure, as well as for electronic communication between the MUP and citizens,” Lukač said in the NSRS, explaining this legal solution.

He stressed that the reason for adopting the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Police and Internal Affairs lies in the need to improve certain legal solutions, as well as to establish new ones with the aim of preventive action and more expedient application of the law.

Milan Petković, a deputy of the United Srpska party, said he received a letter from the Delegation of the European Union.

“The EU Delegation reacted even before us deputies and expressed its concern, but what gave me satisfaction in all of this when I read it is that their objections are absolutely unfounded and have no basis or legal foundation. They point out that it is not disputed that RS has a police reserve force, because European countries like Germany also have it. That is good because the European Union told us we have the right, and the essence is that this law needs to be precisely defined and elaborated,” said Petković.
