Petition 8.372: America strongly opposes attempts to deny the Srebrenica genocide

(Patria) - The civic initiative "KLUBA 100 - PLUS", or petition 8.372, requesting the High Representative of the International Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Valentin Inzko, to urgently, and no later than July 11, 2020, impose a law prohibiting the denial of genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is entering its final phase. Namely, after collecting 8,372 signatures, the petition was forwarded to the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Valentin Inzko, through our dedicated activist Ms. Senada Softić-Telalović, on June 12, 2020.

The initiators of the petition hope that by July 11, 2020, when we mark another sad anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, the High Representative will find a way to unblock the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH on this issue, or, within his Bonn powers, directly impose a Law prohibiting the denial of genocide in BiH.

As a form of additional encouragement and possible support for Mr. Inzko, the founders of "KLUBA 100 - PLUS" have been diligently engaged on social networks and establishing contacts with BiH media, to whom we are extremely grateful for providing media space and disseminating news about the petition and our civic engagement. Furthermore, club members have additionally contacted significant government representatives and well-known politicians in many countries, asking them to further support the petition's demands.

A large part of this work was done by an agile activist of "KLUBA 100 - PLUS". The editor-in-chief of the portal Bosanski pogledi, Amna Dumpor from London, reported to the BHDINFODESK agency:

"It was my pleasure, on behalf of "KLUBA 100 - PLUS", to be in charge of contacting accredited ambassadors and diplomatic missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, then institutions of the European Union, the office of the UN Secretary-General, then the British Parliament and the office of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Of course, numerous international organizations around the world were also included – all with the aim of greater transparency and raising awareness about the genocide which, unfortunately, is still being denied in our region.

The reaction was not lacking, and we are very surprised by the warm messages of support, and our dedicated work has been recognized by the American Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Their letter to "KLUBA 100 - PLUS" states that the USA is committed to remembering the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and strongly supports efforts to find all those who are still missing, and to bring those responsible to justice.

The response also states that the USA strongly opposes attempts at historical revisionism and the denial of the Srebrenica genocide. Furthermore, they support the participation and activism of the diaspora in achieving a positive impact on events in BiH. Finally, I would add that their address to "KLUBA 100 - PLUS" is also an invitation to our diaspora to participate more actively in the socio-political life of BiH and to contribute positively to building democratic awareness and respecting the judgments of the Hague Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia."

"KLUB 100-PLUS" currently consists of 131 citizens and friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 27 countries, and on this occasion, we thank everyone who has helped and is helping in any way to realize the petition.
"KLUB 100-PLUS" will keep the petition active and therefore invites all those who wish to support it to do so at the following link: http://chng.it/PFHRM2s294
