Pensioner (76) tried to make himself coffee on a train and caused a fire

(Patria) - A German pensioner caused a fire on a train after using a gas stove to make coffee, police reported.

In the incident, which occurred on Sunday, the 76-year-old attempted to make himself coffee on a train traveling between the northern German cities of Hamburg and Kiel.

He placed a gas stove on his suitcase, which soon caught fire and began to emit smoke.

Passengers pulled the emergency brake and informed the federal police about the incident, and a fellow passenger skillfully managed to extinguish the flames using a fire extinguisher.

Upon the train's arrival at Neumünster station, the man was met by police. Due to his injuries, he was immediately transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against him for property damage and negligent arson, local police reported.
