Pentagon clashes with Anthropic over use of artificial intelligence in military service

The discussions represent an early test case for whether Silicon Valley, which is at Washington's mercy after years of tensions, can influence how U.S. military and intelligence personnel deploy increasingly powerful artificial intelligence on the battlefield.

After weeks of contract negotiations, the U.S. Department of Defense and Anthropic are at an impasse, six people familiar with the matter said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
