Palestinian Suffering: No Formal Protection from Israel

The Israeli army launched an attack on the Gaza Strip on July 8, and in the first five days of the attack alone, 148 Palestinians were killed, including a large number of children, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

World powers failed to react to the Israeli aggression, and it was only in August that European officials reacted to stop the bloodshed.

During the aggression, hospitals and schools were shelled, and numerous public figures condemned the violence, including BH footballers Asmir Begović and Vedad Ibišević.

Meanwhile, Palestinian associations in BiH and numerous citizens showed support for Palestine through protest marches.

Since the beginning of Israel's attack on the Gaza Strip, more than 2,148 Palestinians have been killed, 450 children, and more than 10,000 have been injured, with houses and schools destroyed, said Madžid Maruf, president of the Association "Palestinian Community in BiH".

A ceasefire was reached only on August 26, mediated by Egypt, which entails an indefinite cessation of hostilities, including Israel's approval to end the blockade of Gaza to allow the delivery of food and building materials to the territory.

Due to the bombing, many people's health deteriorated. Israel did not cease its pressure, as they prevented Palestinians from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and they also banned Norwegian doctor Mads Gilbert from entering Gaza, despite him having been in Palestine for over a decade.

Good news arrived from Sweden at the end of October; it recognized Palestine as a state.

That the troubles were far from over was shown at the end of November when a state of emergency was declared in the Gaza Strip due to floods, and many people left their homes.

The end of the year brought new worries for Palestine. Namely, the United Nations Security Council did not accept the draft resolution on Tuesday evening, which was supposed to ensure Israel's withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories within the next three years, as well as the formation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Experts had previously warned that the draft resolution would not be adopted because the United States of America (USA) strongly opposed it, reports the BH News Agency Patria.
