(Patria) - Parliamentary elections in Germany will be held on September 28, 2025, the office of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced yesterday.
Steinmeier, on the recommendation of the Government, officially set the date for the Bundestag elections - the lower house of parliament. After the elections, the Bundestag will elect the head of government - the Chancellor.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced that he will run for a second term, but his party and its coalition are rapidly losing popularity due to constant internal disputes.
Since December 2021, Scholz has led a three-party coalition of his Social Democrats with the Green ecologists and the Free Democrats.
Last week, its leaders agreed on the details of the 2025 budget, weeks after reaching an initial agreement that they had argued about again, further damaging the government's reputation.
