Paris: More than 100 'Yellow Vests' arrested

(Patria) – More than 100 demonstrators were arrested in Paris during the 'Yellow Vest' protests on Saturday.

7,000 police officers were deployed to stop the violence that has become a common sight at Yellow Vest gatherings, as well as to prevent radical groups from infiltrating the march against climate change taking place in Paris.

Protests have shaken France since November 17, when a large number of citizens reacted via social media to the jump in fuel prices, which later grew into wider protests.

Police claim that some of the total 137 arrested demonstrators were carrying hammers and canisters of fuel.

Macron called for calm on Friday, stating that 'although it is good for people to have the opportunity to express themselves,' they should not disrupt the protests against climate change and the annual European Heritage Day also scheduled for Saturday.

In a recent interview with Time magazine, he stated that the 'Yellow Vest' protests helped him listen and communicate better than he did at the beginning.

The movement, which initially gathered 282,000 people across France, began to weaken, especially during the summer when only a few protests were held.
