A French police officer and his wife, who worked at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, were stabbed to death by an unknown attacker, who was subsequently killed by police gunfire, writes the British Independent.
Their three-year-old son was held hostage but was rescued by police unharmed.
ISIL's news agency Amaq quoted an unnamed "source" who stated that the attack was carried out by an ISIL fighter, but this extremist jihadist group has not officially claimed responsibility for this attack.
Jean-Baptiste Salvaing, deputy head of the judicial police at the Les Mureaux police station, was killed first around 8:00 PM.
Salvaing (42) was stabbed 9 times in the abdomen while returning home in civilian clothes, reported French Le Figaro.
Commandos from the elite RAID police unit were present at the scene of negotiations between law enforcement and the attacker. The street was blocked.
Around 11:00 PM, shots and an explosion were heard, and police stormed the house.
The attacker was then killed.
The child was rescued unharmed but in shock, reported French radio stations.
