PARIS Explosions heard near hotel where outgoing prime minister is staying

(Patria) - In Paris, explosions were heard before a van caught fire near the office of the outgoing French prime minister, just one day after his resignation.

Witnesses reported hearing three explosions near the Hotel Matignon, where Sebastian Lecornu was scheduled to hold meetings after his resignation, reported Le Parisien.

Images from the scene show a van in flames as emergency services attempt to contain the fire. Local media reported that the fire was confined to the van and did not spread to surrounding buildings. It is unclear what caused the explosions or the fire.

Images shared on social media show that the van belongs to a public lighting company. Rue de Varenne has been blocked. Lecornu's resignation came just one day after he appointed his ministers and after only 27 days in the position.

Lecornu is expected to address the National Assembly today.

"The conditions were no longer met for me to carry out my functions and allow the government to appear before the National Assembly tomorrow," said Lecornu when announcing his resignation.
