Pope Leo Calls on Israeli President to Stop the War and Turn to Diplomacy

(Patria) - Pope Leo XIV and the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, spoke by phone on Friday morning, April 3, on the occasion of the Easter holidays.

During the conversation, the focus was on the need to end the serious ongoing conflict.

According to the Holy See's Press Office, during the conversation, the need to reopen all possible channels of diplomatic dialogue was reiterated, with the aim of stopping the conflict and achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.

In the continuation of the conversation, special attention was paid to the importance of protecting civilians, as well as respecting international and humanitarian law, Vatican media reported.

We remind you that Pope Leo had previously, addressing tens of thousands of people in St. Peter's Square on Palm Sunday – the celebration that marks the beginning of Holy Week leading up to Easter – called the conflict "terrible" and said that Jesus cannot be used to justify any wars.

At least four people were killed and several injured in Israeli attacks on southern and eastern Lebanon, the Lebanese National News Agency reported.

In Sahmar, in West Bekaa, a drone hit worshippers leaving a mosque after Friday prayers, killing two people and injuring 11.

Separate attacks were recorded in Qalawiya, where one person was killed, and in Yahmar al-Shaqif in the Nabatieh district, where one person was also killed.

Israeli attacks on Lebanon have been ongoing for days, with infrastructure destruction, and millions of people have had to leave their homes.

At the same time, Israel is carrying out continuous attacks on Iran together with the USA. The attack began on February 28 and has caused serious consequences for the entire world.
