Pope Francis spoke with great emotion on Sunday about his visit the previous day to the Moria migrant camp on the Greek island of Lesbos, and especially about meeting a widower, the father of two children, who was crying a lot, reports the Patria News Agency.
With Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew and Ieronymos, Orthodox Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, "we visited a refugee camp," Pope Francis said in St. Peter's Square during Sunday mass.
Migrants come from Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Africa, and so many other countries. We greeted about 300 of them, said Pope Francis, who returned to the Vatican with 12 Syrians.
There are many children among the migrants, some children have witnessed the death of their parents, friends who drowned. "I saw so much pain," said Jorge Bergoglio, the grandson of Italian migrants, emotionally.
He told the case of a 40-year-old man. "I met him on Saturday, as well as his two sons. He is a Muslim and said he was married to a Christian woman. They loved and respected each other, but unfortunately, terrorists slaughtered her because she did not want to deny Christ and abandon her faith." The Pope added that the man was crying constantly, writes Index.
