(Patria) - Silence of anticipation and prayer reigns in the Vatican as the world bids farewell to Pope Francis.
Although the exact date of the funeral is not yet known, it has been confirmed that from Wednesday, the body of the Holy Father will be displayed in St. Peter's Basilica, where the faithful will be able to pay their respects in person.
Tomorrow, the first congregation of cardinals will be held in Rome, where decisions will be made regarding the further course of the ceremonies and the funeral itself, reports HRT.
A medical report was released this evening, according to which Pope Francis died of a stroke, followed by irreversible coma.
At the same time, the Pope's testament was also released, summarized on one page, and written and signed in 2022.
In his will, the Pope expressed his wish to be buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore - a church he always considered his spiritual anchor, as he "always placed his priestly and episcopal mission under the intercession of Our Lady".
He wished for a burial in the ground, without pomp, and a simple tombstone with the single word "Franciscus".
The Pope concluded his will with the words:
"May the Lord reward those who loved me and who will continue to pray for me. I offered the suffering of the last part of my life to the Lord for peace in the world and brotherhood among peoples."
