Palestine in the spotlight after Paris attacks

Israel on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, described as "terribly audacious" the statement by Margot Wallström, Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs, which was interpreted as an attempt to link the Islamic State attacks in Paris with the suffering of Palestinians under Israeli occupation, reports Patria.

Minister Wallström gave a statement to Swedish state television two days earlier, responding to a question about whether she was concerned about the radicalization of young people in Sweden fighting for the Islamic State:

- It is clear that we have reason to worry not only here in Sweden, but around the world, because there are many who are radicalizing - said Wallström.

Here you again come to situations like those in the Middle East where not only Palestinians, but others too, see that there is no future for them. Palestinians must either accept a desperate situation or resort to violence – said Minister Wallström.

Israeli MFA spokesperson Emmanuel Nahshon accused the minister of consistently showing anti-Israeli bias and demonstrating true hostility.

The Swedish minister's spokesperson said she did not comment on the Paris attacks when she spoke about Palestinians and that the statement was from another part of the interview that focused on factors leading to radicalization.
