
(Patria) - Pakistan has submitted a formal request to join the BRICS group of countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), spokesperson for the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told reporters, TASS agency reported.
"Yes, I can confirm that Pakistan has submitted a formal request to join BRICS, which we believe is an important group of developing countries," Baloch said.
According to her, Pakistan has friendly relations with most BRICS members and countries recently invited to join the organization.
"We believe that by joining BRICS, Pakistan can play an important role in advancing international cooperation and revitalizing inclusive multilateralism," Baloch added.
The newly appointed Pakistani Ambassador to Russia, Muhammad Khalid Jamali, told TASS in an interview published on November 22 that Islamabad had submitted a request for BRICS membership in 2024 and counts on Russia's assistance during the membership process.
