(Patria) - Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that his country will soon host talks between the US and Iran.
However, he did not reveal whether the talks would be direct or indirect, and there are no official confirmations from Washington or Tehran at this time.
Dar spoke after a meeting of high-ranking diplomats from Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, where ways to end the month-long war were discussed.
- Pakistan is very pleased that both Iran and the US have expressed confidence in our role as mediator - said Dar, adding that the talks should be held 'in the coming days'.
He also stated that the foreign ministers of Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia supported Pakistan's peace efforts. It was announced that the ministers of the four countries will meet again tomorrow.
Pakistan has positioned itself as a mediator in recent weeks, given its relatively good relations with both Washington and Tehran.
Pakistani officials state that the public engagement followed several weeks of quiet diplomacy.
