The Hague Tribunal will pronounce the verdict on Radovan Karadžić, former president of Republika Srpska, charged with genocide and crimes against Bosniaks and Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the period from 1992 to 1995.
The verdict should be delivered by the Chamber presided over by South Korean judge O-Gon Kwon, with members including judge Howard Morrison from the United Kingdom and judge Melville Baird from Trinidad and Tobago, reports the Patria agency.
Judge O-Gon Kwon has served as a permanent judge of the International Court since 2001. He has held various positions, including that of Vice-President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, he is remembered as a member of the Trial Chamber that conducted the trial of Slobodan Milošević for genocide in seven municipalities in BiH.
In 2004, the Trial Chamber concluded by majority vote that Milošević was "a participant in a joint criminal enterprise, together with the then leadership of the Bosnian Serbs", but in that case Kwon issued a separate opinion, considering that "it has not been proven beyond reasonable doubt that the accused Milošević acted with the intent to destroy Bosniaks, in whole or in part, as an ethnic and religious group".
O-Gon Kwon also imposed the position in the "Karadžić" case in 2012 that genocide was not committed in seven BiH municipalities (Bratunac, Foča, Ključ, Prijedor, Sanski Most, Vlasenica and Zvornik). Following an appeal by the Prosecution, that decision was overturned.
Judge Kwon presided over the Trial Chamber that sentenced Vojislav Šešelj to one and a half years in prison in 2011 for publishing the identities of protected witnesses from the trial for war crimes in Croatia, Vojvodina and BiH.
Judge Melville Baird is a retired judge from Trinidad and Tobago. He has been a member of the International Court since 15 December 2008. He is known as a judge who presided over cases of the most serious murders, attempted murders, kidnappings and similar cases in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago... Judge Howard Morrison was born in the United Kingdom on 20 July 1949. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of London. He has a very rich career, and in 2001 he also served as Queen's Counsel.
He has been a judge of the International Court since 31 August 2009. Download Judge Morrison's complete biography here.
