Opening of the Memorial Room for the Murdered Children of Sarajevo Planned for May 5 This Year

(Patria) - The Speaker of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, Elvedin Okerić, emphasized that the Sarajevo Canton will continue to support the activities of the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Sarajevo 1992-1995, among which the project of building a Memorial Room for the murdered children is particularly important.

The president of this association, Fikret Grabovica, stated at today's meeting with Speaker Okerić that the activities are in the final phase, and that the Memorial "White Room", dedicated to the memory of children killed during the siege of Sarajevo, should be opened on May 5 this year, on the Day of Remembrance for the Murdered Children of Sarajevo.

It will be located at Džidžikovac street, number 3, where the Association will also have its official premises. It will be a place where elementary and high school students will be educated about what happened to their peers in besieged Sarajevo, which, as Grabovica pointed out, is also important for preserving peace and freedom, as this memorial will also serve as a warning to future generations.

"The primary mission of our association is to constantly remind of the truth that children were killed intentionally, targeted, and systematically. For this reason, our association participates in marking the anniversaries of civilian suffering at about 32 locations in Sarajevo where the most heinous crimes were committed by the aggressor. It is particularly important to emphasize that a significant number of Sarajevo elementary and high school students visit these places, attending a small history lesson, which is very important for them to learn what happened during the siege of the city," said Grabovica, reminding that tomorrow marks 28 years since the brutal murder of six children in Alipašino Polje.

Speaker Okerić said that the fact that over 1,600 Sarajevo boys and girls were killed during the city's siege speaks volumes about the brutality of the aggression, as well as about the intentions of the perpetrators.

"The Sarajevo Canton will help and always be available to this association that preserves the memory of all the children of Sarajevo who suffered," emphasized Speaker Okerić on this occasion.
