Central Kitchen and Lastavica Kindergarten Opened, Private Institutions to Be Inspected

After the conditions for declaring the epidemic of infectious food poisoning in the Sarajevo Canton area were met, according to the expert opinion of the KS Public Health Institute, the cantonal sanitary inspection has lifted the temporary closure of the Central Kitchen and the "Lastavica" kindergarten, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

The decision was made after the KS Public Health Institute announced that the results of three consecutive stool samples from employees of the Central Kitchen and "Lastavica" kindergarten were negative, and that control swabs from employees' hands, equipment, work surfaces, and utensils were satisfactory.

- We also note that every child who experienced stomach problems must also undergo three consecutive stool examinations, and after confirmation from a pediatrician that the results are satisfactory, they can return to kindergarten.

The end of the epidemic in Sarajevo Canton should be officially declared by the Minister of Health of Sarajevo Canton, while the KS Public Health Institute should provide a final opinion on the source of the infection in the kindergartens.

Given that the collection and processing of relevant data by the KS Public Health Institute, which will prepare an official report with analysis and evaluation, is still ongoing, we cannot speak at this moment about the measures the Inspectorate will take regarding this case.

We remind you that sanitary inspectors of the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs will continue inspections of all kindergartens of this public institution, after which all private kindergartens in Sarajevo Canton will be included in the inspections.

MASS POISONING

We remind you that children from Sarajevo kindergartens began reporting to KCUS on April 22, with a total of 217 reporting, of whom 55 were admitted for treatment. The children were poisoned by salmonella found in pasta with eggs and sour cream, as well as spinach.
