The Centre for Health Promotion and Improvement, the first centre of its kind in the Sarajevo Canton, has been opened in the municipality of Stari Grad. The Municipality of Stari Grad, in cooperation with the Association for Health Improvement and Promotion “Generacija“, has opened this centre with the aim of developing non-institutional care, i.e., improving the quality of life and health of the elderly and children, reports the Patria agency.
The centre officially starts operating on Monday and is at the service of all citizens of Sarajevo Canton every working day from 08:00 to 16:00. Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić stated that the Municipality fully supports this project.
- The most important thing is to get through the first year, and I hope that in the second and third years it will be self-sustaining in terms of finances. For starters, we are 100% behind the project – said Hadžibajrić, expressing hope that this centre will help users gather and socialize, but also from a health perspective.
This is the first such Centre, and the mayor expressed hope that more such centres will be opened.
The President of the Municipal Council Stari Grad, Jusuf Pušina, stated that the mayor recognized the importance of such a centre.
- The Municipality of Stari Grad continues its continuous work when it comes to the health protection of our citizens. This is a good sign that the Municipality strives to be functional for its citizens. We want to be part of the system that will enable a better life, better health protection, and social interaction.
Mahir Selmanović, president of the Generacija Association, stated that the project was presented a year ago and immediately received the municipality's support.
This will be a service for the citizens of KS in terms of improving their quality of life and taking care of their health. Citizens are forced to wait for months for physical therapy; we will help them with that. We will have consultations for children and health care.
The space includes a living room where therapeutic exercises will be conducted for the elderly.
Educational workshops will be held, chefs will show us how to prepare healthy food, and volunteers from the Faculty of Medicine will contribute to the project – said Serdarević.
Furthermore, a room for physical therapy has been equipped. Citizens will be able to come regardless of whether they are members or not to measure their blood pressure, blood sugar, seek advice, etc.
This Centre will act preventively, but also in mitigating widespread and growing socio-health problems.
It is located at Obala Kulina bana street no. 22.
