(Patria) - Mexico has received nearly 11,000 deported migrants from the US since January 20, when US President Donald Trump took office, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated yesterday.
Sheinbaum stated that the number includes about 2,500 non-Mexicans, Reuters reported.
Earlier this week, Sheinbaum reached an agreement with Trump to end threatened tariffs on Mexican goods in exchange for deploying thousands of National Guard police officers to the country's northern border with the US in an attempt to further reduce the flow of migrants to the US.
Speaking at her regular morning press conference, Sheinbaum added that Mexico has repatriated migrants to Honduras via flights and land transport.
She emphasized that the repatriations were not forced.
- It is voluntary. We will accompany them so they can go to their home countries - Sheinbaum added.
