Father of Arrested Bosnian Student Wrote to Turkish Embassy in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The father of an arrested Bosnian student in Turkey has asked the Turkish Embassy in Sarajevo to help him get in touch with his son, reports the Patria news agency.

Father Husein Mašetović informs the Embassy that his son was arrested on May 22 in the city of Ušak, and that he has not been in contact with him since.

Turkish police arrested a student from Gradačac, Selmir Mašetović (24), on suspicion of links to members of the FETO organization, which Turkish authorities consider a terrorist organization.

In his letter to the Embassy in Sarajevo, Husein Mašetović writes that his son is in his final year at the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy in the city of Ušak. He has been living in Turkey for five years. He has never had any problems with the law. Before university, he completed a madrasa. Until the military coup in Turkey in 2016, he was a scholarship holder of the organization „Izvor nade“ from Sarajevo. During the military coup, he was not in Turkey, but in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since 2016, he has been staying in a state student dormitory. He has only three exams left until the end of his studies.

Mašetović informs the Embassy that he has not been in contact with his son since May 22, and that he does not know exactly what is happening with Selmir.

„I ask you as a desperate father for your engagement on this matter,“ writes Mašetović in his letter to the Turkish Embassy in Sarajevo, as reported by the Patria agency.
