Suspects in attack on Vučić released: They asked us what we saw in Srebrenica

Almir Merdić, Elvedin Himzić and Mujo Dizdarević from Tešanj, arrested by SIPA this morning on suspicion of participating in the attack on Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić on July 11 in Srebrenica, have been released, reports the Patria News Agency.

In a brief phone conversation with Patria, Merdić confirmed that he was released after a five-hour interrogation at the BiH Prosecutor's Office.

- I don't know what will happen next. They didn't tell me anything. They returned my documents. They just asked me to tell them what I saw that day in Srebrenica - said Merdić.

SIPA arrested Almir Merdić, Elvedin Himzić and Mujo Dizdarević in Jelah near Tešanj this morning, who, according to the RS Ministry of Internal Affairs, participated in the attack on Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić on July 11 in Potočari, during the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.

Serbian media, citing intelligence sources, had previously identified Merdić as the organizer of the attack on Vučić, linking him to radical organizations in BiH, Srebrenica wartime commander Naser Orić, and the Bosniak member of the BiH Presidency, Bakir Izetbegović.

Last week, Merdić denied any connection to the incident in Potočari in an interview with Patria. He admitted that he was a few meters away from the Prime Minister at the time of the attack on Vučić, but that the photos published by the media show him not as a participant in the unrest, but as someone filming the incident the entire time.

On Friday, July 17, the RS Ministry of Internal Affairs published photos on its website of individuals from Potočari who were allegedly suspicious and participated in the attack. Merdić and his colleagues from Tešanj are among them. RS Police Director Gojko Vasić stated that 20 people participated in the attack, and after today's arrests, further actions are expected in the FBiH region.

The investigation into the incident in Potočari is being conducted by the BiH Prosecutor's Office.
