Resignation of the President of the Norwegian Parliament: Her Apartment in Oslo is Paid for Without Reason

(Patria) - The President of the Norwegian Parliament, Eva Kristin Hansen, resigned from her post on Thursday after it was revealed that the parliament pays for her apartment in Oslo even though she has had a house with her husband near the capital for years.

Hansen told Norwegian television NRK that she believes it is unsustainable for the parliament to have a president who is being investigated by the police.

The 48-year-old politician came under scrutiny after it was discovered that she might have a parliamentary apartment available for use in the capital, despite owning a house near Oslo.

However, she is registered as living in Tromsø, which entitles her to an apartment in the capital.

Hansen says she misinterpreted the rules, which seems to have happened to several other Norwegian politicians as well, according to the dpa agency.

Thus, in September, Minister of Family Affairs Kjell Ingolf Ropstad resigned after it became known that he was registered at his parents' address while living with his family in Oslo.

On Thursday, the prosecutor's office announced that six more MPs are under investigation for similar residency issues.
