Pandora's box has been opened! There is no turning back, and now someone/some people must be held accountable for the chaos and insecurity that citizens of Sarajevo Canton have been living in for the past few years (literally from day to day, given all the risks).
This time, it cannot and must not end only with protests by unprotected citizens, sharp media criticism, and condemnations on social networks, or in other words, "the mountain labored and brought forth a mouse."
Pandora's box was opened by the murder of Selma Agić and Edita Malkoč on Monday, October 10.
We found out some things. What was an open secret until now and what only a few media outlets wrote about has been officially confirmed.
The system in Sarajevo Canton does not function in any segment.
Let's not lie to ourselves anymore – there is no system! Everything is in chaos; corruption is not just a cancer of society, it has metastasized. Anarchy is at play, and the only thing missing is for citizens to take justice and law into their own hands, God forbid.
Police, prosecution, cooperation between police agencies in BiH, subordination within the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton – mutual communication has been reduced to a game of telephone.
Competencies, competencies, competencies... who failed, who is to blame for Sefić escaping, who is to blame that the police arrest and detain, but some prosecutor in the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office does not prosecute the culprit. The opposition, instead of being a corrective force in society as in all democratically ordered countries, sends messages of support to the citizens' demands. That's nice of them, but the opposition can do much more in the parliaments where they sit, be the voice of reason, be the initiator of positive change, not just criticize.
Mutual accusations are flying everywhere. Cantonal Prosecutor Dalida Burzić "triumphantly" stated that she received information about Sanjin Sefić's escape from OSA and the BiH Border Police, bypassing the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs held a press conference where Police Commissioner Vahid Ćosić did not address the public, but instead "pushed" the Head of the Uniformed Police Sector, Mevludin Halilović, to speak about Sefić.
Who should issue an international arrest warrant? When will an extradition request for Sefić be sent? Did he surrender or was he arrested?
Only when the question of his dismissal as police commissioner of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs was raised did Vahid Ćosić deign to speak. The citizens of Sarajevo learned that the commissioner was alive.
The same commissioner who did not deign to appear before TV cameras on the night Selma Agić and Edita Malkoč were killed. Nor the next day, at the press conference where it was announced that Sanjin Sefić had fled to Serbia, did the commissioner appear.
After complaining extensively to "UNPROFOR" that Konaković was attacking him and that the media were lynching him even before his potential guilt was proven, he stood before the journalists.
The public learned that Sanjin Sefić had been registered 47 times in the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs for violations of traffic safety laws and for causing bodily harm and theft.
Ćosić said that out of 18 criminal charges, the KS Prosecutor's Office reacted only once, resulting in a conditional sentence. So, not a single day behind bars despite all the criminal offenses!?
Who is the prosecutor or prosecutors whose drawers hold the Sefić case? Why did no one lift a finger to remove this 25-year-old, dangerous individual from the streets and put him where he belongs – in prison!
How many "Sefićs" are walking the streets of this city, driving recklessly without thinking they might kill someone on the street? How many of them are walking armed through this city, these "brats" influenced by action movies, steroids, bodybuilding, fancy cars, and wealthy fathers?
The commissioner failed, whose inadequate and unprofessional conduct contributed greatly to the chaos we are in. Those before him in the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs also failed, and it has only compounded over the years.
The Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office failed, to which the police submit reports against criminals, but the cases get "lost" somewhere, either in the registry office or in a prosecutor's drawer.
Let's name the prosecutor or prosecutors who received 18 criminal charges for Sanjin Sefić, and only reacted once?
Let them explain why. Let Prosecutor Burzić now hold a press conference and tell the public how many criminal charges against how many young Sarajevo criminals the police have submitted, and how many have been prosecuted, and which prosecutor or prosecutors failed.
Ćosić and his closest associates, Burzić and her closest associates, Prime Minister Elmedin Konaković and Minister of Internal Affairs Vedran Mulabdić... the list goes on.
It is not the first time that when a crime occurs, the most responsible individuals blame each other through the media.
Konaković blames Ćosić, and vice versa, then Burzić blames Ćosić and vice versa. This only contributes to the creation of an even worse atmosphere that benefits only criminals and encourages them to exploit the situation on the principle that while two are fighting, the third benefits. And we know who the third party is. Citizens feel it most acutely.
Those responsible in the Government, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton are aware of something called resignation for moral reasons, if they do not feel legally guilty for the chaos we are enduring (although there are certainly elements of legal responsibility).
Statistics, numbers, statistics, numbers. Empty talk. It wasn't me, it was him, or it was her. Feuds through the media. The public expects action, or as they say in the journalistic profession, "Names, colleagues, names!"
