OSCE tells authorities: Adopt budget or decide on election financing

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The OSCE Mission has commented on Twitter regarding the authorities' failure to decide on financing for the Local Elections, which are scheduled to be held in November 2020.

"The continuous failure to secure funds for financing municipal elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina represents a violation of the provisions of the Election Law of BiH, undermines democracy and the constitutional order, and erodes the independence and impartiality of state-level institutions. The deadline by which the competent institutions of BiH were obliged to secure funds for the elections expired on 22.05. Attempts to obstruct the electoral process, including the deliberate obstruction of securing funds for election financing, could lead to a violation of the political rights of all citizens," stated the OSCE Mission. 

They remind all competent bodies, including the Council of Ministers of BiH, the Presidency of BiH, and the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, of their legal obligation to ensure adequate funds for election financing.

"It is necessary to urgently secure the necessary funds, by adopting the Budget of BiH institutions or by passing a special decision on financing," said the OSCE.
