Armed Forces of BiH continue firefighting in Berkovići, Čapljina and Čitluk

In the early morning hours of 23 August 2017, two helicopters from the Air Force and Air Defence Brigade of the Armed Forces of BiH were dispatched, in accordance with approved procedures, to continue providing assistance to civilian authorities in firefighting operations in the municipalities of Berkovići, Čapljina and Čitluk.

During yesterday's and this morning's engagement, the helicopters of the Armed Forces of BiH, operating in areas affected by fires in the municipalities, achieved 8.2 flight hours, during which 104 tons of water were discharged.

Currently, the helicopters of the Armed Forces of BiH are on the ground undergoing technical checks, and after regular inspections and refuelling, firefighting activities will resume.

Due to the immediate proximity to populated areas, the fire, fuelled by wind and high outside temperatures, poses a threat to residential buildings, and 54 members of the Armed Forces of BiH are present in the affected areas, fighting the fire alongside firefighters and local residents.
