Orban: One or two issues remain to be resolved for Russia-United States summit

(Patria) - Russia and the United States have a few issues to resolve to align their views on the conflict in Ukraine and hold a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump in Budapest, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said, TASS reported.

"One or two issues remain unresolved in the negotiation process between the US and Russia. If they are resolved, it would be possible to hold a peace summit in Budapest within a few days, and then a ceasefire could be declared and peace could come (to Ukraine), depending on the agreement of the parties," he said.

Orban spoke to reporters on the plane en route to Washington, where he is scheduled to meet with Trump today. According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine will be one of the topics of the meeting. He expressed hope that the Russia-US summit would be held in the Hungarian capital.

After a phone call with Putin on October 16, Trump announced that they had agreed to meet in Budapest. However, the summit was postponed because the parties could not agree on the positions necessary to achieve tangible results regarding efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Moscow and Washington have announced that the meeting will take place when the conditions are met.
