Orban: European Union is using the conflict in Ukraine to create a 'United States of Europe'

(Patria) - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes that the leadership of the European Union is using the conflict in Ukraine to financially shackle member states and deprive them of sovereignty, TASS reported.

"The Brussels elite is pushing for joint borrowing to deprive nations of sovereignty and drag us towards a United States of Europe. They want to use the war in Ukraine as an excuse to financially shackle us all. We must look beyond the battlefield to the future of the Union itself – free nations or subservience to unelected bureaucrats?" he wrote on social network X.

The Hungarian Prime Minister noted that the European Union is thus making a final effort to preserve itself as it is currently formulated.

Earlier, Orban said that the bureaucratic center of the European Union had ceased to play the role of the bloc's coordinator and had turned into a "Frankenstein pursuing its own interests".

He said that when the European Union was created, it was agreed that power would be concentrated in the hands of individual nations, but now Brussels is trying to centralize that power. According to Orban, the union's leadership is encroaching on the sovereignty of its member states and failing to resolve any crises along the way.
