Prosecutor's Office of BiH Indictment: Customs Officer Enver Sarajlić "Caught" for 100 Euros and Gifts

A prosecutor from the Third Department of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH has filed an indictment against Enver Sarajlić, born on 10.10.1971 in Obrenovci, Zenica municipality, residing in Zenica, an employee of the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH, in the position of customs officer, reports the Patria News Agency.

According to the indictment, the accused is charged with demanding and accepting a gift as a public official in the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to perform an act within his authority that he was obliged to perform.

The accused is charged that in December 2014, in order to obtain unlawful property gain, at the Bosanski Brod international border crossing, upon entering BiH from the Republic of Croatia, he demanded and accepted a gift from a person who intended to temporarily import two jet skis for sports during their annual leave, in order to allow the person to import the jet skis, even though he was obliged to perform this act free of charge within his authority.

During the control inspection of passengers and goods, the said person presented the necessary documentation for the aforementioned jet skis, asking the accused to explain the further procedure for temporary import. Despite being fully aware of the regulations, i.e., the procedure for temporary import with exemption from import duties, Sarajlić demanded 100 euros from the person to facilitate the import of the jet skis, which the person then handed over along with certain gifts in the official premises of the border crossing.

After entering the territory of BiH, the person was stopped and inspected by the border customs authorities, where they explained how they had imported the jet skis and, at that time, handed over the money and other gifts to the customs officer.

The accused is charged with committing the criminal offense of accepting a gift and other forms of benefit, it was announced from the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.
