'Oppenheimer' wins seven BAFTA awards

(Patria) - "Oppenheimer", a three-hour epic about the making of the atomic bomb during World War II, is the big winner at the BAFTA film awards, winning a total of seven awards, reports RSE.

One of the highest-grossing films of 2023 won the evening's main award - the award for best film.

Cillian Murphy won the award for best leading actor, Robert Downey Jr. is the best supporting actor, the film also won awards for editing, cinematography, original music, and directing for Christopher Nolan, his first such award from the BAFTA association.

- I have so many people to thank for this, but also an incredible cast - Nolan said in his speech.

Emma Stone won the award for best leading actress for the gothic comedy "Poor Things", which won a total of five awards.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph won the award for best supporting actress for the film "The Holdovers", a comedy set in a boys' boarding school.

The courtroom drama "Anatomy of a Fall" won the award for original screenplay.

The Zone of Interest, a war and crime film about the commander of Auschwitz and his family living next to the Nazi death camp, won the special award for outstanding British film.

The award for best documentary film went to "20 Days in Mariupol", a personal account by journalist Mstislav Chernov of the siege of the Ukrainian city.

- This is not about us, this film is about Ukraine, about the people of Mariupol. Another Ukrainian city has fallen, and many cities before it - Chernov said in his speech.
