Centar Municipality supports the work of the Association of Parents of Killed Children of Sarajevo

Centar Municipality awarded a grant of 4,000 KM to the Association of Parents of Killed Children of Besieged Sarajevo 1992-1995, and the President of the Association Fikret Grabovica visited the Municipality. The grant was awarded for preparations for the manifestation „Day of Remembrance for Killed Children“, reports the Patria agency.

Grabovica thanked the Municipality for the donated funds, and informed those present about the activities the Association is carrying out, as well as the problems they face on a daily basis.

- On behalf of the population I represent, I sincerely wish to thank you for the long-standing cooperation and support that is necessary for our activities. In the past period, the Association has indeed done many socially useful things. Among other things, in cooperation with the Institute of the University of Sarajevo for Research of Crimes against Humanity and International Law, we created a Monograph of about 900 pages, which will remain permanently for future generations, we made several films, a large number of reports. We expect that cooperation with Centar Municipality will continue in the coming period. I sincerely wish to thank Mayor Bećirević, Chairman Ajnadžić, Vice-Chairman Kovačević, because Centar Municipality is the institution that gives us the greatest support. For a longer period, the Association has been looking for a space where we would realize the project „Memorial Room for Killed Children“, and we hope that the Municipality will help us with that - said Grabovica.

Chairman of the Municipal Council Nedžad Ajnadžić emphasized that the local community is proud of the work of the Association.

-   Centar Municipality will, in accordance with its capabilities, continue to support your work continuously. You are doing a very socially useful job, obligating the young generations that are coming. It is necessary to constantly remind ourselves of what was, while at the same time pointing to important goals in the future and perspective, also from the aspect of the movement of the state of BiH and our social community towards the EU. The memorial to the killed children of besieged Sarajevo should send a message to the whole world. You should continue to remind us from the social community constantly of that kind of problem you live with, and we should and must have understanding towards that. I believe that your functional office space should be in one place together with the space where the „Memorial Room for Killed Children“ will be located, and we will do everything in our power to help you with that. Centar Municipality will stand at your disposal with its resources, for your organization as well as for others that contribute to preserving the memory of important events and important personalities in the period from 1992 to 1995 - added Ajnadžić.

Vice-Chairman Slaven Kovačević pointed out that it is our obligation to spread messages of peace, friendship, camaraderie, and especially togetherness in multi-ethnic Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- I often say lately that I am afraid of oblivion, because our people are prone to forgetting important things. Regardless, as I am one of the proposers of the amendment for support to the Association of Parents of Killed Children of Besieged Sarajevo, I believe and will try to ensure that this association receives systemic budget support. I also call on other municipalities, as well as levels of government, to join this and to ensure in a systemic way the financing of this very significant Association. Likewise, I join the initiative to find suitable space for the Memorial Room for Killed Children, as well as the offices of the Association of Parents of Killed Children. Finally, I want to say once again that I cannot understand that there are people who are willing to shoot at children, in an organized manner, because the number of killed children shows that this was certainly not a coincidence - said Kovačević.
