The Municipality of Centar Sarajevo, as a unit of local self-government, does not have jurisdiction in the areas of healthcare, culture, education (although a ruling by the Constitutional Court of FBiH has determined that this jurisdiction belongs to units of local self-government for preschool and primary education), public transport...
However, despite all of the above, Mayor Dževad Bećirević, in cooperation with the Municipal Council, has for years placed the Municipality of Centar among the leading financiers of all the aforementioned areas.
Thus, in the budget of the Municipality of Centar for last year, more than 300 thousand marks were allocated for healthcare. The allocated funds were distributed through donations for the procurement of equipment, medicines for patients with leukemia, hepatitis B and C, and other chronic diseases, ensuring healthcare for individuals in social need, and donations to institutions dealing with the healthcare of specific population categories... Therefore, care was taken to provide assistance in all spheres of healthcare.
Last year alone, 130 thousand marks were paid to the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo and the General Hospital "Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš" for the procurement of equipment. These were valuable donations, as emphasized by the officials of these two institutions. These were donations that improved the quality of healthcare for the residents.
Mayor Bećirević has always emphasized that the donated money is actually not paid to hospitals but to our fellow citizens, i.e., patients who deserve better service. In addition, Bećirević pointed out that our doctors need to be provided with modern medical equipment that will place them on an equal footing with their colleagues abroad, where our citizens increasingly go for expensive surgeries, while most citizens, due to lack of financial resources, cannot afford treatment abroad.
The Municipality of Centar continued with significant allocations for healthcare in 2016. This year, funds have also been secured for the procurement of equipment for the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo. Thus, UKCS will receive 45 thousand marks this year for co-financing the purchase of hemodialysis machines, a rigid bronchoscope, and co-financing the purchase of a gastroscope and colonoscope.
The General Hospital will receive a donation of 40 thousand marks this year, while the Public Institution Health Centers will receive 20 thousand KM from the budget of the Municipality of Centar to improve their services to patients. This year, financial resources have also been secured for the treatment of socially endangered residents and the treatment of patients with leukemia, hepatitis B and C, and other chronic diseases.
The executive and legislative authorities of the Municipality of Centar Sarajevo, through their practical actions, continuously confirm their commitment to creating the best possible living conditions for our fellow citizens in all areas, and this will continue in the future.
