Oman confirms continuation of talks between the United States and Iran in Geneva on Thursday

(Patria) - Negotiators from Iran and the United States will meet again in Geneva on Thursday, said the Foreign Minister of Oman, the mediator in these talks, Al Arabiya reported.

In a social media post from his profile, Badr al-Busaidi said that the talks would continue "with positive momentum to take an additional step towards finalizing the agreement".

Earlier on Sunday, Iran's top diplomat said that his country would retaliate against American interests in the Middle East in case of an attack, although he still sees a chance for a diplomatic solution.

Speaking to the American television CBS, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that he expects new talks on the details of the agreement, as fears of renewed conflict loom after Washington carried out a major redeployment of military forces in the region.

American threats of military action have multiplied since the national protest movement caused a major crackdown in which, according to human rights groups, thousands of people were killed.

"If the US attacks us, then we have every right to defend ourselves," Araghchi said, alluding to American interests in the region as potential targets.

Nevertheless, he said, "there is a good chance for a diplomatic solution."

Following a recent round of talks in Geneva, Iran announced that it is preparing a draft agreement proposal that would prevent military action.

"I believe that when we meet, probably again this Thursday in Geneva, we can work on those elements and prepare a good text and reach an agreement quickly," Araghchi told CBS.
