At least three people have died, and four are considered missing, following severe storms and floods that hit southeastern Australia over the weekend, officials said, according to the news agency Patria.
The bodies of two men were found in cars that became trapped in New South Wales. In the same state, two people are missing, including a swimmer who disappeared in the waves at Bondi Beach in Sydney.
"People underestimate the power of moving water, which easily sweeps away not only people but also vehicles," said Matt Reeves, a spokesman for the emergency and rescue services. He notes that it is necessary to constantly repeat that "floodwaters are deadly." Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull also constantly warns of the dangers of storms and floods, reports Index.
