Round table on BiH stability held at EUFOR base in Butmir, focusing on strategic dialogue

(Patria) - The EUFOR Main Headquarters and NATO HQ Sarajevo hosted a high-level security round table at the Butmir base today, bringing together political, diplomatic, and military representatives of the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As announced by EUFOR, the meeting served as a platform for strategic dialogue on the political and security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, confirming the joint commitment of international partners to preserving peace and stability.

The round table was opened by the EUFOR Commander, Major General Maurizio Fronda, who stated that the presence of international actors demonstrates a clear commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Our collective presence here today shows the unwavering commitment of the international community to Bosnia and Herzegovina. EUFOR remains fully committed to cooperating with our partners to ensure peace, stability, and the protection of all citizens,” Fronda stated.

In addition to Fronda and the Commander of NATO HQ Sarajevo, Brigadier General Matthew Vallas, the meeting was attended by a number of high-ranking officials from the international community, including the Head of the European Union Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH Luigi Soreca, representatives from NATO, OHR, OSCE, the United Nations, as well as the ambassadors of France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom, and the Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in BiH.

EUFOR states that their participation confirmed the continuity of diplomatic engagement and long-term support for Bosnia and Herzegovina from its closest international partners.

The meeting was held at a time of, as stated, dynamic geopolitical changes, and participants analyzed the current security environment with a focus on BiH's stability, new risks, and potential critical points.

Discussions also covered the role of international missions in preserving a safe and stable environment, strengthening cooperation between international organizations and domestic institutions, supporting BiH's progress, and countering divisive rhetoric and activities that undermine stability.

Participants, according to the statement, emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of the political and security situation, as well as coordinated action in support of Bosnia and Herzegovina's sovereignty and territorial integrity and the implementation of reforms.

Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening the resilience of domestic institutions, improving cooperation with defense and police structures, and the need for international efforts to remain coordinated and mutually complementary.

It was concluded that the presence of EUFOR continues to play a key role in preserving stability, especially in the context of regional insecurity, while the importance of continued engagement from NATO and other international organizations present in BiH was also highlighted.

The meeting conveyed that close cooperation among international partners remains essential for responding to present and future challenges, in cooperation with domestic authorities to preserve a safe and stable environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
