Around 14 Million Americans Left Without Aid, Trump Refuses to Sign Bill

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Millions of Americans have temporarily lost unemployment benefits after Donald Trump refused to sign the bill on pandemic relief measures.

Newly elected US President Joseph Biden warned of "terrible consequences" if Trump continues to delay signing, but the Saturday deadline has now passed.

This will affect unemployment benefits and the eviction ban.

The $900 billion package was approved by Congress after months of tough negotiations and compromises.

Trump said he wants to give people larger one-time payments.

The bill includes a $600 payment to Americans earning less than $75,000 annually.

Trump stated he wants Americans to receive $2,000, but Republicans in Congress refuse to agree to that change.

He defended his position on the issue again late last night on Twitter, blaming China for the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic. He wrote that people should receive $2,000 plus another $2,000 for other family members, not $600.

The economic relief related to the pandemic comes as part of a $1.4 billion federal budget. A partial government shutdown or closure will begin on Tuesday, December 29, unless lawmakers pass a stopgap bill before then, but this does not include coronavirus aid and Trump would still have to sign it, writes the BBC, as reported by BHRT.

The cancellation of these payments for the unemployed and low-income individuals will affect about 14 million Americans.
