Ogrešević: Today, even those directly responsible for the pain and injustice that led to his demise praise Alagić!

(Patria) - Twenty years have passed today since the heart of a great warrior, commander, hero of the Liberation-Defense War, one of the greatest sons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, General Mehmed Alagić, stopped beating.

"General Alagić did not die of a heart condition, but of injustice," said the first president of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alija Izetbegović, upon hearing the news of the legendary Krajina commander's death.

General Alagić died humiliated and persecuted, in the evening hours of March 7, 2003, in a catering facility in Sanski Most.

Alagić: Faced great injustice

Today, all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina proudly remember Alagić, especially the people of Krajina. The Mayor of Cazin Municipality and President of NES, Nermin Ogrešević, told Patria that "injustices are a burden that breaks even the strongest hearts, and such was the heart of our general, hero, and man of Krajina, Mehmed Alagić."

"Today marks a full 20 years since the departure of this great man, who is missed by both his Krajina and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although today, even those directly responsible for the pain and injustice that led to his demise praise him, the bitterness of this fact does not diminish our pride and gratitude that we had him during the most difficult moments for our homeland.

General Mehmed Alagić will remain a beacon for present and future generations because his life showed that a man from Krajina fights for his country and people with all his heart, mind, and capabilities until the end, regardless of the consequences," said Ogrešević, adding:

"We ask the Almighty to reward our general with the highest rewards for all that he has done for his Krajina and homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina."

Alagić was the commander of the Operational Group (OG) Bosanska Krajina, then the commander of the 3rd Corps of the Army of RBiH, and subsequently the commander of the 7th Corps of the ARBiH, where he was promoted to the rank of general.

He will be remembered as a warrior who commanded the operation to liberate Vlašić.
