Biden commented on Navalny's death: Putin is responsible

(Patria) - US President Joe Biden addressed the death of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny, stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin is responsible for his death.

"I am neither surprised nor outraged by the news," Biden said, adding that "Navalny bravely opposed corruption and violence in Putin's administration".

He says there is no reason not to believe the reports of his death.

"Make no mistake, Putin is responsible for Navalny's death, and that is even greater proof of Putin's brutality," Biden says.

"This tragedy reminds us of the stakes of this moment. We must provide the means for Ukraine to continue to defend itself," Biden warned.

Republicans, by the way, are holding an important bill on aid to Ukraine in the House of Representatives, after it passed the Senate with bipartisan support.

"Putin and the whole world should know. If any adversary attacked us, our NATO allies would support us, and if Putin attacked a NATO ally, the US would defend every inch of NATO territory," Biden said.

The President said after a meeting with Vladimir Putin in June 2021 that Navalny's death would have devastating consequences for Russia.

When asked what consequences Putin would face, Biden says: "That was three years ago, and in the meantime, they have faced a large number of consequences."

He is referring to the sanctions taken against Russia and the number of Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine.
