(Patria) – The British economy recorded a 20.4% drop in April compared to the previous month, due to extraordinary epidemiological measures that paralyzed this world superpower.
Official data on gross domestic product (GDP) from the Office for National Statistics indicate the consequences of measures that forced businesses across Great Britain to close their doors, and millions of workers to lose their jobs.
April was a particularly difficult month for companies and their employees, when most of the British economy's activities were paralyzed.
Although some of the measures have been eased and businesses are working hard to overcome losses, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) claims that the British economy will 'shrink' more than the economy of any other developed country.
It is predicted that GDP during 2020, as a measure of national income, will experience a contraction of 11.5% and even up to 14% if the coronavirus returns in a second wave, which would force the government to reintroduce strict restrictive measures and general quarantine.
