House arrest and restraining measures ordered for arrested Mirel Karajić

The prosecutor from the Terrorism Department of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, after questioning the suspect, will submit a proposal to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the imposition of house arrest and restraining measures for the suspect: Karajić Mirel, born on 23.02.1986 in Velika Kladuša, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

The suspect Mirel Karajić was deprived of his liberty in an operation code-named "Damask", and is suspected of having traveled to the territory of the Republic of Turkey at the end of 2014, together with several other persons known to him, and then crossed the Turkish-Syrian border and joined, becoming a member of the terrorist paramilitary formation "Dewla Islamija" or "Islamic State", of which he was an active member until mid-2015, i.e., until the moment of his deprivation of liberty by the police and security authorities of the Republic of Turkey, carried out in coordination with the judicial, police and security authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A detailed operational investigation established that the suspect stayed in Syria and Turkey under a false identity, after which his extradition was requested from the Republic of Turkey.

The suspect was extradited to the police and judicial authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina on 21.01.2016. He is suspected of the criminal offense of organizing a terrorist group, under Article 202(d) and the criminal offense of terrorism under Article 201 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina continues the intensive investigation in this case.
