Citizens who blocked the entrances to the Smiljevići landfill for two days, after a meeting with officials from the KS Government, Novi Grad Municipality, and KJKP Rad, agreed to withdraw and allow the landfill to operate, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.
KJKP Rad trucks will continue to collect waste that has already accumulated on Sarajevo's busiest streets.
As highlighted in the conversation with KS Prime Minister Elmedin Konaković, KJKP Rad has not been disposing of waste adequately at this landfill for a long time, which has resulted in an unbearable stench and pollution.
Konaković stated that platforms are being built for the landfill and that work will begin at the landfill tomorrow with the dumping of soil.
Today, the KS Prime Minister, along with the Mayor of Novi Grad Sarajevo Municipality, Semir Efendić, Director of KJKP Rad, Selim Babić, Minister of Communal Economy and Infrastructure of KS, Senad Hasanspahić, and Minister of Spatial Planning, Construction, and Environmental Protection of KS, Čedomir Lukić, and Fuad Babić from the KS Institute for Construction, visited the Smiljevići landfill.
As confirmed by some of the citizens' representatives to Patria, a meeting will be held again in 15 days to review the situation with the landfill.
