Tribute Paid to Children Killed in Dobrovoljačka in 1992

From a mortar shell fired from aggressor positions around besieged Sarajevo on September 12, 1992, in Dobrovoljačka Street (today Hamdije Kreševljakovića 15)  two children lost their lives, Aida Grozdanić (11) and Eldin Gvožđar (9), reports the BH News Agency Patria.

In memory of the innocent victims, family members, along with representatives of the Centar Municipality and the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Sarajevo Besieged 1992-1995, laid flowers in front of the memorial plaque and paid tribute to the tragically fallen.

On behalf of the Centar Municipality, flowers were laid by Nedžad Ajandžić, President of the Municipal Council, Slaven Kovačević, Deputy President of the Council,  Mustafa Resić, advisor to Mayor Dževad Bećirević, and Ibrahim Burazerović, coordinator in the Local Self-Government Service. Students from the Primary School "Grbavica I", which the fallen boy Eldin Gvožđar once attended, also attended the laying of flowers, reports Patria.

- On that day, when the decision adopted at the international conference to place heavy weaponry around besieged Sarajevo under UNPROFOR control was in effect, criminals from the hills fired at our children as if they were a legitimate military target. The children died in front of the popular youth gathering place "Trasa" in Dobrovoljačka Street while going to an event in the premises of the "Skenderija-Podtekija" Local Community, which was housed in "Trasa" during the war - said Fikret Grabovica, president of the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Sarajevo Besieged.

Grabovica stated that the judiciary has so far convicted only two  people accused of crimes against civilians during the siege of Sarajevo. 

 - The truth about the longest siege of a city in recent European history and the suffering of Sarajevans must be conveyed to new generations - said Grabovica.
