Tribute to Suada and Olga, killed for wanting peace

A tribute to the first victims of the aggression, Suada Dilberović and Olga Sučić, who were killed on Vrbanja Bridge on April 5, 1992, was paid by representatives of the City of Sarajevo and a delegation from Dubrovnik, where Dilberović originated, reports the BH news agency Patria. Family members, as well as representatives of the Municipalities of Centar and Novo Sarajevo, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Club of Sarajevans from Dubrovnik, also came to pay their respects.

The demonstrations for peace held in Sarajevo on that April 5th were fatal for these two young women. Snipers positioned in surrounding buildings extinguished two young lives.

Today, a memorial plaque stands on the bridge in memory of these two innocent victims, which reads: "A drop of my blood flowed, and Bosnia did not run dry."

Ranko Čović, Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo, stated that it is extremely important to remember these two young lives that were given for the idea of unity, for living together in Sarajevo.

- On the day when the citizens of Sarajevo gathered to resist the madness, crime, and evil that followed, they were the first to lay down their lives for what we have today.

Šemsudin Brković, President of the Bosniak National Community for the City of Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik-Neretva County, said that they are paying tribute to the brutally murdered girls who went to seek justice, truth, and love.

- I urge all young people to follow their example.

The head of the Council of Europe Office in BiH, Mary Ann Hennessey, also laid flowers.

- We remember Olga and Suada because their lives were destroyed on April 5, 1992, and we remember even better their desire for peace and coexistence.
