Tribute Paid to Sarajevo Children Killed in 1992 on Hamdija Kreševljaković Street

By laying flowers, reciting Fatiha, and observing a minute of silence, a tribute was paid to the children killed on Hamdija Kreševljaković Street in Sarajevo 23 years ago, reports the news agency Patria.

Aida Grozdanić (1981) and Eldin Gvožđar (1983) perished at this location. Representing the Centar Municipality of Sarajevo, the tribute to the innocently killed children was paid by the Mayor's advisor Mustafa Resić and the Municipal Council President's advisor Adil Katica.

Tributes were also paid by families, friends, and representatives of the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo 1992-1995, the Centar Municipality, and the City of Sarajevo.

Fikret Grabovica, President of the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo 1992-1995, emphasized that Aida and Eldin, like many other children during the siege of Sarajevo, were targeted and killed intentionally.

- On that day, UNPROFOR issued an order to bring heavy weaponry under control, but the criminals did not comply – Grabovica recalled.

- Knowing that this order had been issued, the children left their basements and shelters to attend an event organized that day in the Skenderija Local Community, to socialize with their peers and relax after spending every day in the basement.

On their way to the local community, a shell fired from Trebević ended all the childhood dreams and games of Aida and Eldin.

Jasmina Grozdanić, the mother of the murdered Aida, said that time does not heal wounds.

- The more time passes, the harder it gets. Our Aida is gone. What we wish for is for justice to be served. However, even if that happens, our wounds will not be healed, because neither justice nor anything else will bring back our child's life – Jasmina emphasized.

Mustafa Resić stated that the history of Europe has not recorded children being killed in besieged cities in the manner that occurred in Sarajevo from 1992 onwards, reports NAP.
