At least 50 people have died from the H1N1 swine flu virus in Russia since the beginning of winter, according to figures from regional authorities, and the infection with this virus is spreading more and more across the country, reports the Patria News Agency.
Sanitary authorities in the Rostov-on-Don region told the Russian news agency Ria Novosti that two more people have died, bringing the total number of victims of this flu in the region to eight.
In the neighboring Volgograd region, authorities announced that at least 11 people have died as victims of swine flu. The first death was also recorded this week on the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed in March 2014.
These cases followed the deaths of four adults and one child in Dagestan, in the Russian Caucasus, and the deaths of two patients in Yekaterinburg and the Adygea region, in the south, earlier last week. Cases of deadly swine flu have been recorded in the Bryansk, Belgorod, and Vladimir regions.
Russian Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova previously stated that the swine flu epidemic in the country is "completely under control," writes Index.
