Of 49 attacks on religious buildings in BiH, almost half targeted mosques

Of a total of 49 documented attacks on religious community buildings in BiH, almost half of the attacks occurred on Islamic Community buildings, according to the report of the Interreligious Council of BiH for the period from November 1, 2013, to October 31, 2014, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

The registered attacks on Islamic Community buildings mostly occurred in the BiH entity of Republika Srpska: seven attacks in Zvornik, four attacks in Banja Luka, two in Bijeljina, and one each in Bosanska Dubica, Bosanski Novi, Doboj, Mrkonjić Grad, Prijedor, Trebinje, and Višegrad, while only one attack was registered in the Federation of BiH, in Livno.

Of the remaining attacks, 14 were on Serbian Orthodox Church buildings, 12 attacks on Catholic Church buildings, 1 attack on a Jewish Community building, and 1 attack on a Seventh-day Adventist Church building.

Monitoring of attacks on religious buildings and other sites of importance to churches and religious communities in BiH began on November 1, 2010. Since then, 166 attacks on religious buildings, religious officials, and believers directly related to religious buildings have been recorded. As many as 77 attacks targeted Islamic Community buildings, the report of the Interreligious Council of BiH further states, reports NAP.
