OceanGate Decides to Halt Expeditions to Titanic

(Patria) - OceanGate, the American company that operated the tourist submersible which imploded during a dive to the Titanic wreck, has suspended all research and commercial operations.

The company announced this information yesterday, without providing details other than a notice on its website: "OceanGate has suspended all research and commercial operations."

In June 2024, OceanGate had planned two expeditions to the Titanic wreck in a remote part of the North Atlantic.

American and Canadian authorities are investigating the cause of the June implosion that killed all five people aboard the submersible and raised questions about the unregulated nature of such expeditions.

The U.S. Coast Guard last week found human remains and debris from the submersible known as Titan, after searching the ocean floor. Further analyses are expected to shed light on the cause of the implosion, reports Hina.

The Titan lost contact with its support ship during its descent on June 18. The remains were found four days later, scattered on the seabed about 488 meters from the bow of the Titanic.
